Lingua: Italiano

Regia: Aavv

The Introductory film, directed by Giacomo Battiato with texts and visuals by Emilio Ambasz, introduces the mood of the groundbreaking exhibition curated by the latter at MoMA in New York in 1972 (May 26 – September 11). “Achievements and Problems of Italian Design” is the caption of the video, shot in the Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery and at La Scala opera house. These two symbolic Milanese locations are offered to the American public in their nocturnal and oneiric versions, as the settings where pieces of Italian design, that later became iconic, come to life, and open a dialogue between past and future. The skillfully restored film continues with five videos, each curated by an iconic designer (Gae Aulenti, Ettore Sottsass, Joe Colombo, Alberto Rosselli) to chronicle their futuristic projects of spatial environments and delineate new visions of the design process (Superstudio). The film continues with images of the other protagonists of the exhibition and Enzo Mari’s statement, made in absentia. The videos, oscillating between pop-art and surrealism, are the work of Gianni Colombo and Livio Castiglioni, Massimo Magrì, Osvaldo Marini. There is all the flavor and creativity of that era.
